This morning, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly attended a ceremony at Al Nasr Automotive Company, under the Ministry of Public Enterprises, celebrating the resumption of bus production after a 15-year pause. He also inspected ongoing development work at the company, where he was welcomed by Minister of Public Enterprises, Mohamed Shimi, alongside other ministry and company officials.
The event was attended by several high-profile figures, including Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir; Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad; Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Asmat; and Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber, in addition to members of parliament and ambassadors from various countries.
Ceremony Highlights:
- A documentary and presentation showcased Al Nasr’s rich history and ongoing development efforts to restore its legacy as a cornerstone of Egyptian industry.
- Al Nasr’s Managing Director, Khaled Shadid, outlined the company’s future vision, including fully utilizing all factories, investing in feeder industries, and diversifying products to include light transport vehicles, golf cars, and electric tuk-tuks.
New Milestones:
- The Prime Minister witnessed the signing of an agreement to establish a joint venture between Al Nasr Automotive Company, Singaporean-Taiwanese firm Tron Technology, and UAE’s Your Transit. The new company will manufacture the first electric mini bus (24-seater) for urban and tourism services, with a production capacity of 300 buses in 2026. Additionally, an electric battery production line is set to produce 600 batteries by 2026, with plans to double production by 2027.
- This partnership aims to enhance public-private collaboration and attract more foreign investment.
Site Tour and Production Goals:
- The Prime Minister toured the bus manufacturing plant, observing different production stages and quality testing procedures.
- The plant currently has an annual production capacity of 300 buses, with a target of 1,500 buses by 2027 and a local component ratio reaching 60-70% over time.
- The first batch of “Nasr Sky” tourist buses, known for advanced technology, comfort, and safety features, was delivered to Ministry of Transport companies during the event.
Future Plans:
- The Prime Minister also reviewed the passenger car plant’s development, set to begin trial production in mid-2025 with a local component exceeding 45% in the first phase.
- The plant is designed to produce more than one model simultaneously, with an annual capacity of 20,000 vehicles per shift.
Historical Significance and Vision for the Future:
- Founded in 1959 as Egypt’s first automotive manufacturer, Al Nasr has played a pivotal role in national industry. Despite a liquidation decision in 2009, the company was revived in 2017 and is now embracing advanced production methods to align with Egypt’s sustainable development goals and industrial vision.
