After 15 Years of Hiatus: Al-Nasr Automotive Comes Back to Life

A high-quality local production by Al-Nasr Automotive Company marks the beginning of its return to production and competition in both local and global markets after a hiatus of about 15 years.

The Spot website’s camera takes us on a tour inside the factory of Al-Nasr Automotive Company.

A Long History

Al-Nasr Automotive Company was established in 1959 as Egypt’s first automotive manufacturing company. It produced and assembled many models that proved their worth in the local market, such as the Fiat 128, 131, and Nasr Shahin, among others.

A decision was later made to liquidate the company in 2009. In 2017, however, the company was reinstated from liquidation. After its restart and the modernization of its production lines, the company is now preparing to enter a new phase of advanced production, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt’s future industrial vision. The current production capacity of the factory is up to 300 buses annually, with a target to reach 1,500 buses per year by 2027, covering all types. The local content is expected to reach 50% in the first phase and later increase to 60-70%.

International Partnerships

The international partnerships that the company has established are considered a turning point and the launchpad for the return of production. The company has already begun delivering the first batch of “Nasr Sky” buses to the companies of the Ministry of Transport, produced in partnership with the Chinese company Yutong.

Additionally, a founding contract for a joint-stock company was signed between Al-Nasr Automotive Company and two companies—Singaporean-Taiwanese Tron Technology and Emirati Your Transit—to manufacture the first electric minibus accommodating 24 passengers, with a production capacity of up to 300 buses in 2026.

Electric Batteries

The company has also set up a production line for electric batteries, with a capacity to produce 600 batteries in 2026. Production is scheduled to begin by mid-next year, with these numbers expected to double starting in 2027.

Passenger Cars

Development efforts also extended to the passenger car plant, where production lines have been installed with a capacity of 20,000 cars annually. Pilot production is scheduled to begin in mid-2025, with an initial local content percentage exceeding 45%.

Furthermore, Al-Nasr Automotive has launched a new company in collaboration with the Safi Group under the name “S.N. Automatic” to produce a new car with specifications identical to the Chinese DongFeng Shine.

The Company’s Future Vision

Al-Nasr Automotive’s future vision is based on several key pillars:

Achieving optimal utilization of the company’s customs area to facilitate and expedite logistical operations.

Developing the infrastructure.

Utilizing all its factories by incorporating them into the production cycle.

Investing in industries that stimulate growth and deepen the industrial base.

Diversifying products to include light transport, golf cars, and electric tuk-tuks.
